Second Semester Registration for 2011-2012 | Mission StatementRevised Jan 15,2008The Triangle Program is Canada’s only high school program for LGBTQ youth. It is a safer space, free from homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism where LGBTQ youth can be themselves,be respected, and valued for who they are. It is a program where all will be respected and treated equally regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, class, ability, gender identity or sexual orientation. Racist, sexist, homophobic and other oppressive behaviour, language and/or symbols are not tolerated. The Triangle Program is a classroom that supports students to develop or rediscover the skills necessary to successfully transition back mainstream secondary school programs,post-secondary education,or to the workplace. It is a supportive environment where conflicts and differences get dealt with quickly in a mature and responsible manner. We Value:- A safer, social justice,community-focused,and equity-based high school program for students who have left school,or are thinking of leaving school, because of the homophobia, the transphobia, and the heterosexism that exists in the school system.
- A program designed to assist students in developing both the academic and life skills necessary to move on to another high school program,a post-secondary program,or to the workforce.
- A student-centred program, with a teaching and support staff that work together to assist students in developing their potential.
- A program that features curriculum about our LGBTQ – lesbian,gay,bisexual,trans-identified,inter-sexed,two-spirited and questioning/sexual minority – literature,history,and lives.
- A process of community and community input. We modify our Program’s policies and practices through reflective approaches to teaching – communication with staff,students,parents/guardians,and our school council.
