Class and learning structure

Triangle is semestered, which means students are timetabled for 4 credits per semesters. On any given day, students only focus on 2 credits. Triangle Programs works on a day 1-2 cycle that rotates every 11 days. Our students have found that it is easier to focus on 2 credits at a time.

Daily schedule

The classroom is open for personal study every day at 9:00 a.m. Classes begin punctually at 9:30 am and the school day ends at 3:30 pm. The Triangle Program is able to offer students a nutritious meal every day at lunch and breakfast. Community volunteers prepare lunch, which always includes a vegetarian option. The opportunity to “break bread” with each other serves as a way to bring the Triangle community together. Breakfast is a self serve system.

Attendance

Attendance is important and is recorded for every class and monitored regularly by the teachers and the social worker. We’ve found that to be successful students need to attend regularly.

The attendance requirement is 80% as measured over the trial period and the duration of the quarter units. Legitimate absences, with notification BY NOTE prior to absence will not be counted. Two lates (exceeding fifteen minutes) are considered an absence. All absences must still be accounted for by telephone message or by note. UNACCOUNTED ABSENCES ARE GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL.

Student attendance is kept in the attendance booklet and may be seen by students at any time. If a student does not maintain their attendance at 80%, they risk losing their place at the Triangle Program.

Core courses

The Triangle Program offers all ministry dictated compulsory courses in all grades.  Due to our limited resources and teaching staff electives are usually in subject areas the teachers are qualified in. Currently we have a selection of computer science, English, history, science, media arts and social science courses students can select from.

Unit structure

Curriculum has also been further adapted to offer both Co-operative Education and independent, project- based credits.

Triangle Program is now a semestered school, so students will be focusing on 4 credits at a given time.  Most courses have a LGBTQ  focus: Current issues, literature and history of lesbian, gay and transgender people, statistics,  wellness, etc.
